Outback Trees of Australia (OTA) are a commercial remote area landscaping company (over 20 yrs experience) providing commercial remote area landscape and irrigation services throughout Western Australia.

OTA was established in 1990 by Denis & Damon O’Meara. Denis started greening the Northwest in 1964 in Marble Bar, and his tree propagation & planting exploits have seen him win a number of National and Western Australian Greening Australia awards, and culminating in him being awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in 2009 for services to the environment through his Pilbara native plant work.

The business was primarily established in Port Hedland in the early 1990’s, with a major 5 year garden maintenance contract with BHP. During this time (and subsequent to) there have been many and varied contracts involving commercial and major residential landscape projects in and around Port and South Hedland.

OTA have a permanent North West branch in Wedgefield, Port Hedland from which we are well placed to complete any North West project. We are currently servicing a number of group and singular housing landscape projects in Port & South Hedland. The base is operated by our full time Pilbara Manager, Michael Cheney, who has 10 years experience working on major landscape projects for Outback Trees of Australia. We also have ties to a Roebourne based Indigenous group that sees us completing many projects with them in the Karratha area.

OTA have over 20 years of contract work with nil LTI’s. All our personnel are extremely experienced with Pilbara & minesite work conditions & abide by all relevant safety regulations & undergo any site inductions, drug testing, medicals, MWHS etc for site entry. OTA personnel have also completed the Rio Tinto & BHP Billiton Supervisor’s Workshops, Pilbara Iron HSE & DTEC courses.

OTA are qualified lead contractor status with Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton, and are currently completing major projects for both groups as lead contractor.

OTA have a large native plant nursery in Marble Bar (to service all our contracts) where we grow on and sun harden many species of native plants, many of which are endemic to the Pilbara region and WA in general. OTA can supply many required plants from our nursery for any contract.

OTA is a also major employer of Indigenous labour through direct employment and an exclusive alliance we have entered into with NBAC/Brida Pty Ltd – a Pilbara (Roebourne) Indigenous group with a long history in the area. This enables OTA to provide training and skills to Indigenous employees in horticultural and irrigation techniques through working on major landscape projects.
